Hong Kong Airport Express Railway

Airport Express Railway (AER) is a dedicated railway providing fast service to only 3 stations in the downtown area. It relies on its shuttle buses to various hotels.

Free In-town Check-in and porter services are available for many airlines at Hong Kong and Kowloon Stations except the following airlines: Air Asia, Air Philippines, Angel Air, Cebu Pacific, Continental Airlines, Jetstar Asia Airlines, Oriental Thai, Pakistan International, Shenzhen Airlines, and Transaero. Outbound passengers can check in their baggage one day before or up to 90 minutes before take-off. Free check-in service up to one day prior to departure is available when passengers fly with these airlines: Aeroflot, Cathay Pacific Airways, China Airlines, Dragonair, Mandarin Airlines, Qantas Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Thai Airways International PCL and Vietnam Airlines.

The Airport Express Shuttle-bus is a complimentary add-on service provided exclusively for Airport Express passengers travelling between Hong Kong or Kowloon station and major hotels and railway interchanges.

Before boarding, please show proof of eligibility including Airport Express train ticket (Single Journey, Same Day Return, Round Trip, Airport Express Travel Pass), Airline ticket / boarding pass, Airport Staff Octopus card, AsiaWorld-Expo entry pass or event ticket.

Points to consider if you take the AER,

1. You have to carry your own luggage from the train to the shuttle bus. If you cannot manage to carry your own luggage, AER is not your choice.
2. The total traveling time – from the airport to your hotel needs 2 different vehicles. Do not overlook the waiting time.
3. The 3 AER stations are poorly and remotely located. You need a taxi connection to get to them if the shuttle bus cannot meet your tight time schedule.
4. The cost of AER and the taxi connection.
5. Number of persons in your group. Other means of transportation may save you more and take about the same time. You can always consult with the front office staff in your hotel.

Journey times on the Airport Express from the airport are;
Tsing Yi Station ~12 minutes
Kowloon Station ~21 minutes
Hong Kong Station ~24 minutes
Trains run at a frequency of approx 12 minutes.
