Penang's Sakura

The Sakura of Penang has been blooming all across Penang and Seberang Perai. One of the most beautiful sight of these trees is the one stretch which blooms in full flaunting glory along the road of Bayan Baru. Throughout the past three weeks, these budding cherry blossoms have been an ideal photographic background to loving couples, chummy friends and families all of which have a story to tell, as well as a perfect nature subject to many professional photographers.

Called the Tabebuia Rosea in scientific terms, these flowers sprout in colours of white, pink, and pastel purple leaving trails of fluffiness on the ground and making it the most eye-catching Penang scenery of the month.

It is said that these magnificent South American flowering trees only blossom in mid-spring during which the temperature must be perfected within the range from 20°C to 30°C on average, with annual rainfall above 500 mm, and on soils with very variable pH.
And lucky for Penang, we are able to witness this very rare occasion when the flowers are blossomed in proud glory which only comes as a reminder to everyone to stop and smell the flowers from time to time.

Seeing that the blossoming of the Tabebuia Rosea trees have been received so joyfully by the general public, the Penang State Tourism Development, Culture, Arts & Heritage Committee are contemplating to bring forward the Floral Fest to coincide with the blooming of the 'Penang Sakura'.
